Allen Staffers Assault Man. Allen's Response: "Things Like That Happen."

Mike Stark, a former Marine and current University of Virginia law student, was assaulted by staffers of Sen. George Allen (R-VA) yesterday afternoon, after Stark asked a question the staffers considered too "personal."

Stark tried to ask about the arrest records he refuses to make public and whether he had ever spit on his first wife. (Rumors to that extent have been circulating, but appear to be unsubstantiated).

"Now you're getting personal. Now you're getting personal," one staffer said as he slammed Stark into an exterior window of the Charlottesville hotel at which Allen was making a campaign stop. Video is available here. Listen for the audible "thump" of Stark's head hitting the window as he's wrestled to the ground.

According to CNN, Allen's response was that "things like that happen." Stark apparently plans to press charges.

Way to stand up for free speech, Senator.

The staffer didnt assault Mike Stark. The staffer botched the greeting of Mike Stark. Just like Kerry botched the joke.

Mike Stark is an asshole who probably deserved as ass whoopin.

To the average person, the tape is pretty disturbing, exposing Allen's campaign workers as frightening thugs.
Allen's response solidifies him as an insensitive, brutal thug himself.
Stark, an apparent U.S. Marine veteran, wrote a good letter providing his view of the incident (follow JABBS link above).
Stark brought to the forefront a few days before the election that Allen has an undisclosed arrest record. What should matter most though is Allen's record as a Bush rubber stamp and an otherwise mediocre senator.
I think Webb just sealed his at least 5-point lead over Sen. Macaca as reflected by a late Rasmussen poll.

To answer to annoymous above, I see the Republican blogs are just stuffed this morning with news of Kerry's alleged comment mocking the U.S. armed forces fighting in Iraq.
Many of the pieces, of course, leave out or mischaracterize Kerry's truth-filled rebuttal. Nothing like censorship to attempt to manipulate popular thought when you have nothing else.
These blogs want to pretend that Kerry has given the GOP "a present" a week before election day. If you say it enough, it must be true, I suppose.
Most of the thinking herds, but the fringe right, will see right through this right-wing spun bullshit.
The Right is trying to turn this into a major mainstream newsstory. It will backfire.
It only shows how completely desparate the Republicans are to come up with something -- anything -- to attempt to reverse the Democratic tilt in the elections next week.

Kerry has cancelled all his appearances for today. What a coward he is. And speaking of cowards, where has Webb, Casey, Pelosi and Murtha been lately. In witness protection until the election is over. I guess the DNC doesnt want these stalinist pigs out there shooting their mouths off either. Come out come out where ever you are. You pigs are the gift that keeps on giving.

It's amazing you can walk upright. But Webb is leading in 4 of the last 5 polls and is out actively campaigning. Casey is leading by about 14 points. Pelosi isn't doing much b/c she's in a safe district, same goes with Murtha. What's wrong with you, dummy?
