The Alternate Universe of Conservatives

"(Bush) must, as Nixon did with Vietnam and Reagan did with the Cold War, confront the adversaries directly ... without mincing words."

-- Ken Khachigian, former Nixon aide and Reagan speechwriter, Nov. 16

***

This is how the conservative mind works. Forget facts! Embrace spin! Confuse Americans!

Somewhere, Gus Hall is smiling. (And for different reasons, probably Karl Rove, too.)

Taken literally, Khachigian compares critics of the administration -- and let's remember, 57% of Americans believe that Bush "deliberately misled" the nation when making the case for war -- are akin to the communists of North Vietnam or the old Soviet Union.

Wow. What an insult to more than half of the country's intelligence. I wonder how quickly Khachigian can find work in the Bush Administration. With the Plame-gate investigation still under way, there may be some key openings upcoming.

It's not that far of an assumption considering the anti-war movement has basically been hijacked by every wacko anti-Bush faction out there. Ever attend an anti-war rally? They are dominated by members of the Communist Worker Party; radical gays; Neo-nazis, etc. See the problem with Democrats, Liberals and for that matter intellectuals is the they live by the credo: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." That works great until that enemy decides it's time to slit your throat.

That's a B.S. comment, Edmond.

If Khachigian had limited his comment to Vietnam (anti-war protesters), then maybe he'd have a point, although he (and you) are overlooking the fact that 57% of Americans disagree with the president.

But there was no "pro-Soviet" effort in the U.S. in the 1980s -- nothing akin to the anti-war movement during Vietnam.

It's also ridiculous to lump together American communists, Socialists, or any other fringe parties with Democrats.

That'd be like a liberal saying that we should lump together fascists and neo-Nazis with Republicans.

I have to laugh. "the problem with ... intellectuals"

Isn't the problem that we DON"T have any intellectuals running the country? We have a bunch of KNOW-NOTHINGS!!!

Only a MORON would be against INTELLECT!

That's the problem with empty-skulled, right wing morons like Edmund above. All they do is resort to calling names and pointing fingers like school children on the playground, instead of injecting any substance into their criticisms.
The same can be said of Cheney and Bush on top of offering nothing but empty rhetoric.
If these two are so dead set on setting the record straight on pre-War Iraq intelligence, like they say they are, then why the hell don't they both agree to a press conference, answering to every piece of convincing evidence indicating the administration lied, on top of finally explaining what really went on in the Plame affair?
Hear me Bush and Cheney. Are you up to my challenge?
Perhaps someone unlike myself with actually authority would be up to holding Bush and Cheney to my challenge.
