You Can't Make This Stuff Up ...

As a journalist for nearly two decades, there are times when I feel ashamed to be in the same industry as the television talking heads.

Following the exchange below on yesterday's edition of the syndicated Chris Matthews Show between faux liberal Matthews and apparent Bush cheerleader (and MSNBC anchor) Lisa Daniels, I wondered, do I know anyone who would have such a morbid, cynical conversation?

Liberal? Conservative? Communist? Is there anyone in my universe who would suggest that Mayor Ray Nagin incorrectly predicting the death toll in New Orleans is "going to be a win" for President Bush? Is there anyone so cynical as to think that a death toll of 2,000 or less -- "lowballed ... brilliantly," as Matthews put it -- has any effect on voter sentiment?

Here's the brilliant exchange:

DANIELS: All right. Being down in New Orleans for two weeks, I think it's actually worse than the TV pictures actually show. But that said, expectations are so bad right now -- that it's going to take so long for the water to be pumped out, that there are 10,000 dead bodies there -- that this is actually, Howard [Fineman, fellow panelist], going to be a win for President Bush.

MATTEWS: Because there won't be 10,000 bodies?

DANIELS: Right. It's going to be much better.

MATTHEWS: They've lowballed it brilliantly.

DANIELS: And that's exactly what President Bush does best.

It's Disgusting, Matthews Needs To Commit Hari Kari and put us all out of his misery. There's no excuse for his blatant sycophantism.

Sounds more like what Rump Limpbag was saying.

Not as bad as all the gloom and doomers were predicting or words to that effect.

I don't think we'll EVER hear an acurate death toll...

Daniels is no slouch

"Daniels graduated first in her class from Hamilton College in New York with dual degrees in mathematics and history. She went on to graduate cum laude from Harvard Law School."

A very impressive accomplishment. It's depressing that someone that intelligent can be so morally clueless.

proof that education does not make a person intelligent

Ms. Daniels is nothing but a garden variety bush whore

While it's comforting to reflect that they'll all die and go to hell... it's painful to contemplate the numbers of Americans they'll kill before they get there.

That's some sick shit right there.

those people need to be examined by a clinical psychiatrist for their risk (to others) for psychopathic behavior.

Only the elite whores could come up with this.

Yesiree bob! See? There weren't no 10,000 dead in New Orleans! Bush wins again because only 2,000 or 5,000 died due to his incompetence.

Someone jump in this thread and try to tell us all once again what a swell guy Chris "Tweety" Matthews is supposed to be.

What kind of perverse personality would reduce the death, suffering and morbidity to a political calculation?

I don't what to say about this or even how to feel.

While the comment is in, at best, questionble taste, remmber that the prevailing wisdom in the blogosphere was that baause of Bush's incompetence thouads were dead. Because f a lack of ladership on his part, thousands of bodies were floating in the streets of New Orleans. Children were being raped and murdered because Bush is a horrible leader. Remember all that? Well, it isn't thousands dead, and so far, the police have not found one raped and murdered child. It was all media exaggeration. And in that sense (Bush vs The Media) bush wins.

That's a nice spin, anonymous.

The reality was that people thought that FEMA was slow to react to the crisis -- something that Bush himself has acknowledged. No one blamed Bush personally for any raping or looting.

more than 24 hours later, I'm still astounded by that woman's mind-boggling idiocy and slavish devotion to Bush.

How much do you have to pay people to act that stupid?

This is a woman who graduated at the top of her class at Harvard, and she possesses no critical thinking skills?

Tweety is beyond redemption, of course, but this woman made even him seem reasonable.

It was a disturbingly disgusting spectacle -- even Bush whores like Howard Fineman and Elizabeth Buemiller were taken about by her insane ramblings. If you hadn't heard the introduction of her as an NBC employee, you'd thought she was an RNC spokesmodel.

They need more "wins" than that

For instance, the Iraq blood bath was supposed to be a "piece of cake".

and was not to take very long. He was wrong on both counts, and he said he wanted Osama's head on a platter, now, he says it not a top priority.

He's wrong about just about everything, and people are finally figuring him out as one who cannot be trusted; so you ginks in the media shouldn't start your celebration too soon

The media was kicked out, right? FEMA doesn't want pictures of the dead out of "respect", right?

Gee whiz, you don't think Bu$h cut a deal re: body counts in exchange for a little reprieve do ya? Okay I'm paranoid but why isn't Nagin being heralded for his fine evacuation work?

Just chewing my bitter cud here.

No,they changed their minds quickly on the media issue....

Bush and his ass clowns backs were against the wall. If they would have run the media out and blacked out all news in NO there would have been outrage from even the Bush ass kissing MSM.

Well, they probably should have. Of our whole country, and not just in NO.

As I noted on another thread: Daniels is so clueless she makes Norah O'Donnell seem bright. And to their credit, the other panelists did regard her as if she were the female version of Baghdad Bob.

Doesn't excuse Captain Blowhard. He didn't chastise Daniels. He agreed with her.
