You Can't Make This Stuff Up ...

A trio of Duke University sophomores say they drove to New Orleans late last week, posed as journalists to slip inside the hurricane-soaked city twice, and evacuated seven people who weren't receiving help from authorities.

The group, led by South Carolina native Sonny Byrd, say they also managed to drive all the way to the New Orleans Convention Center, where they encountered scenes early Saturday evening that they say were disgraceful.

"We found it absolutely incredible that the authorities had no way to get there for four or five days, that they didn't go in and help these people, and we made it in a two-wheel-drive Hyundai," said Hans Buder, who made the trip with his roommate Byrd and another student, David Hankla.

Had the coin landed on the other side, these doofuses could just have easilly been trapped in their Hyundai and needed to be rescued themselves... thus eating up more valuable resources already spread too thin. Stay home and smoke your bong next time dumbasses.

Ouch.

To Shane, some would call these Duke students "heroes," for risking their lives to save others. We should be thankful they survived, and we should congratulate them for the work they did.

Oh wow...that's just incredible! Those kids are true heroes! Too bad this wonderful deed is creating cognitive dissonance with my inherent dislike of all things Duke ;-)

Seriously though...how heartening that they could do this, and how sad that they could get in when FEMA couldn't.

Did you hear about Sean Penn renting a boat and rescuing a handful of people?

I heard about it, but the conservative radio host (a weekend fill-in, don't know his name) was disparaging. Made a Madonna joke, and joked about how Penn had a private photographer with him.

Did people make fun of those volunteers who helped out on 9/11? Why should this be any different? Some people are willing to risk their lives to save others. They should be congratulated, not disparaged.

Amazing - these nimrods went into the disaster area and helped no one?

Didn't take anybody out? Didn't bring anyone any water? Just drove in and complained no one else was there and doing any of the work?

Wonderful - Democrats in action.

For the people who would rather bash Democrats than work on their reading comprehension.

Wonderful - Republicans in action. :)

Seriously Dennis, how about thinking before mindlessly bashing these kids?
